Welcome to the website of the Harrison Township Historical Society, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to discovering, preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of Harrison, South Harrison and western Elk Townships that were all included within the township's original 1844 boundaries.
The Society's museum is housed in Mullica Hill's historic 1871 Old Town Hall, while lectures and performances are held at the 1870 Richwood Academy Cultural Center located at 836 Lambs Road in Richwood. Both buildings are listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
In 2023, the Society was honored to receive the American Association for State and Local History's Albert B. Corey Award. The Award recognizes primarily volunteer-operated historical organizations that best display the qualities of vigor, scholarship, and imagination in their work. This is an award made at the discretion of the Awards Committee and is AASLH’s most prestigious award for all-volunteer institutions. The Harrison Township Historical Society is the first New Jersey organization to be so honored.
